Before we start.. If you are not Australian and are wondering what the term fosters flop is, then here it is:
Australian slang for being too inebriated (drunk,tanked,etc...) to get an erection.
"Jeeze Mate, I could a shagged that sheila last night but got the Fosters Flop at the last minute"
, that's a worry!"
When people talk about kegel exercises, the assumption is often that they are something only women do. While this may oftentimes be true, it shouldn’t be. While anatomical structure is different, men’s sexual health can receive a big boost from giving their PC muscles a workout!
Why Should Men Care about Kegel Exercises?
Your PC muscles muscles form a supportive network that runs from your anus to your urinary sphincter, and this supportive “floor” of muscles is responsible for holding your internal organs in place and preventing prolapse. Not only that, the strength of these muscles is responsible for your prostate health and control over your bladder and bowels.
As men age, it isn’t uncommon to experience a decline in bowel control and increased susceptibility to urinary incontinence. By doing kegel exercises before you experience these issues, you may be able to prevent them entirely. If you are experiencing mild to moderate incontinence, strengthening the PC muscles can decrease or even reverse the condition.
One of the most important benefits to many men is what kegel exercises can do for your sexual health. Doing kegels regularly can prevent or improve erectile dysfunction. Due to the increase in circulation, many men have stronger, harder erections that last longer. Giving your PC muscles a regular workout is also a typical treatment regime for premature ejaculation. If you are experiencing one of these sexual issues, there is no reason to feel ashamed. It could be a simple matter of increasing your muscle strength! We all know that if we want strong, muscular bodies, we’re going to have to work out. The same is true when it comes to sexual health.
If that’s not enough to make you want to add kegel exercises to your workout routine, there’s another benefit to consider. Many men report that when they do kegels on a regular basis, they have more intense orgasms. They are stronger and longer than those in men who don’t exercise their PC muscles.
How to do Kegels for Men
Kegel exercises are the squeezing and releasing of the PC muscles. A common recommendation to figure out if you’re doing kegels correctly is to start urinating and then stop the flow. If you are able to successfully stop the stream, you’re using the right muscles. It’s fine to do this to figure out if you’re doing them correctly, but it isn’t recommended to use this method regularly. Stopping your urine flow can cause urine to back up into your urethra, which can cause urinary tract infections.
In addition to making sure you’re using the right muscles, be sure that you keep the rest of your muscles relaxed. During a properly executed kegel you shouldn’t contract your abdomen, buttocks, or thighs.
There are a lot of different recommendations for kegel exercise routines, and honestly, one is not necessarily better than the next. Just remember that some exercise is always better than no exercise. Here is a sample routine to give you an idea of what works.
- Squeeze your PC muscles and hold for three seconds. Release.
- Repeat ten times.
- Now rapidly contract and release your PC muscles ten times.
- Go back to squeezing and holding for three seconds for ten repetitions.
- End with ten rapid contractions/releases.
Repeat this routine up to three times a day. As you build stamina and your PC muscles grow stronger, you can increase the number of kegel exercises you do per session. As you gain greater awareness of your body, you can exercise your anal and penile muscles separately. You can also increase your penile muscle strength by draping a light hand towel over your erect penis for added weight.
As with any exercise routine, you might not experience results right away. It takes time to increase your PC muscle tone. Don’t get discouraged, in time you will notice results that make your kegel exercise routine well worth your effort.
